Description
Wraparound · ANSI Z87.1 frame, Z87+ lens · Polycarbonate / Trivex / High-index Rx · FSA/HSA eligible
The Hercules 5 is the wraparound everyday Rx frame for crews that don’t have a brand budget. Industrial-grade safety geometry, real prescription cuts in polycarbonate or high-index, at a price built for tight per-pair budgets.
Cheap safety glasses get cheap somewhere. Frames at the bottom of the category usually cut corners on either the lens housing geometry — which causes optical distortion in any prescription stronger than a starter script — or on the frame impact rating. The Hercules 5 stays honest on both. The lens housing is engineered to take a prescription cut without shifting the optical centers, and the frame and lens both carry the ANSI Z87+ mark. What you give up at this price point is brand cachet and the deeper-cut feature list you’d see on a $150 Wiley X. What you don’t give up is the certification or the prescription cut quality.
A wraparound frame curves around the side of the face rather than sitting flat across the brow. The practical difference: peripheral protection from debris, glare, and wind that flat-front frames can’t deliver. The optical trade-off — and this is where cheap wraparounds usually fail — is that the curve repositions the optical center of each lens away from where your pupil naturally falls. Our lab corrects for that automatically based on the frame curvature data we keep on file for the Hercules 5. The result is a wraparound that gives you peripheral protection without making your prescription feel off-axis.
If you need an industrial-rated Rx pair under $50 with prescription cut quality you can trust, this is the pick. If you need multiple sizes from a single SKU, look at the OnGuard OG225S. If you need a frame that’s also FSA/HSA-eligible for a stronger prescription where edge thickness matters, configure the Hercules 5 with high-index 1.67 lenses at the customize step — the wraparound housing tolerates the high-index cut better than most frames at this price.

Product Q&A
Frequently Asked Questions about the Hercules 5
What makes the Hercules 5 different from cheaper safety glasses at the same price?
Two things. First, the lens housing is cut for full prescription range — a lot of sub-$30 frames technically accept Rx but distort the optical centers in stronger scripts. The Hercules 5 doesn’t. Second, the frame is wraparound rather than flat-front, which gives you the peripheral protection a flat-front frame can’t deliver, while still passing as everyday eyewear off-shift. You’re paying for lens geometry and frame architecture, not for branding.
I have a strong prescription. Will it still look right?
Most likely yes. The Hercules 5 housing handles single-vision prescriptions to roughly +/-6.00 sphere with cylinder up to -3.00 in polycarbonate, and stronger scripts in high-index 1.67. Wraparound frames distort lens edges if the optical center isn’t repositioned for the curve — our lab does that repositioning automatically based on the frame model. If you’ve had bad luck with wraparound frames before, the lab notes section at the customize-lens step is the place to flag it; the lab will manually verify the centers before cutting.
Is it ANSI rated for my work environment?
The Hercules 5 carries the ANSI Z87.1 high-impact mark on the frame and the high-velocity Z87+ mark on the lens — that’s the spec OSHA 1910.133 calls for in most industrial, manufacturing, construction, and lab environments. The shatterproof polycarbonate clears the high-velocity test (quarter-inch ball at 102 mph) with margin. The full marking is visible on the inside of the temple, which is what your safety officer or compliance auditor checks during walkthroughs.
Can I order them without prescription if I just need cheap, ANSI-rated glasses for the shop?
Yes. At the variant selector, choose Non-Prescription Safety Lens or Frames Only. Non-Prescription Safety Lens ships ready to wear with clear plano polycarbonate lenses already installed; Frames Only ships unfilled if you have your own lab. Both configurations carry the same ANSI Z87.1 frame and Z87+ lens marks as the prescription version.
How is the fit? I have a smaller face / larger face.
Medium-fit by default — works for the central 70% or so of adult fittings. The Hercules 5 has adjustable nose pads, which lets you tune the bridge for narrow noses and high-cheekbone fits without sending the frame back. If you measure significantly outside the average (PD under 58 mm or above 70 mm), the OnGuard OG225S, which ships in Small/Medium/Large, is a better starting point.
