Description
Oakley Standard Issue · ANSI Z87+ ballistic-rated lenses · MIL-PRF-32432 compliant · Side shield kit included
The Det Cord PPE is the Oakley you’ve actually seen on-spec in field gear photos. A flat-temple, low-profile silhouette designed for run-and-gun environments where the eyewear has to clear comms, hard hats, and over-ear PPE — now cut for prescription lenses and certified to the OSHA 1910.133 standard with the included side shield kit.
The Det Cord lineage matters. Oakley built this frame for the Standard Issue program — government and military procurement that has zero patience for cosmetic engineering. Every component is there for a reason: the slim temple thickness clears in-ear comms; the cupped lens edge channels debris away from the optical center; the side shield housings snap on without altering frame fit. When that DNA gets cut for prescription lenses, you end up with one of the few Rx-rated frames that actually passes inspection without anyone needing to swap eyewear at the gate.
Z87.1 is the ANSI-rated impact baseline — a ball-bearing drop test from 50 inches. The plus designation adds the high-velocity test: a quarter-inch steel ball fired at the lens at 102 mph across multiple impact zones. Plutonite, Oakley’s house lens material, clears both with margin. MIL-PRF-32432 is the military ballistic spec — a heavier, faster fragment-simulating projectile, the standard for protective eyewear in deployed environments. The Det Cord PPE carries Z87+ on the lens, Z87.1 on the frame, and the MIL-PRF designation on the lens material. That’s the trifecta that keeps a single pair of glasses compliant from the lab to the live-fire range to the back of the truck.
Every Rx order goes through our US optical lab. Single-vision, bifocal, and progressive prescriptions are all available; we cut polycarbonate, Trivex, and high-index 1.67 to fit the Det Cord housing without distorting the optical centers. The script is verified twice — once when it’s digitized and once on the finished pair before it ships. If the lab makes a mistake, we remake the lenses at no charge. Most jobs leave the lab inside 5–7 business days. The Frames Only configuration ships immediately if your local optometrist prefers to install the lenses for you.

Product Q&A
Frequently Asked Questions about the Oakley Standard Issue Det Cord
Are these the same Det Cord that the military issues?
The Oakley Standard Issue Det Cord PPE is the prescription-ready industrial variant of the same frame Oakley supplies through its Standard Issue program. The frame geometry, the impact-rated lens material, and the comms-compatible thin temple architecture are identical. Where this version diverges is the Rx-cut lens housing — Oakley engineered the inner curve specifically to accept prescription lenses without distorting the optical centers, which is why this PPE-spec model exists as a separate SKU.
What's the difference between the OO9253-2161 SKU and the regular Det Cord?
The 2161 colorway is the matte black PPE configuration with clear Plutonite lenses, side cup vents, and the standard removable side shield kit. The non-PPE Det Cord ships without the lateral protection package and is sold as a sport/lifestyle model. The 2161 carries the ANSI Z87.1 marking on the temple and the Z87+ marking on the lens — both are required for OSHA-compliant industrial use.
How thin can my prescription lenses be in this frame?
Plenty thin — that’s one of the reasons people pick this frame for Rx. The lens housing accepts polycarbonate, Trivex, and high-index 1.67 materials. For prescriptions up to roughly +/-4.00 sphere with cylinder up to -2.00, polycarbonate is the right call (lightest, ANSI-rated, lowest cost). Above that, high-index 1.67 keeps the edge thickness in proportion with the slim Det Cord profile so the glasses still look like glasses, not safety goggles.
Are they comms-compatible — do they work with earpieces and over-ear PPE?
Yes. The temple thickness and the unobstructed pivot path were designed for in-ear comms and standard earmuff PPE. The temple tip clears most over-ear cup geometries without breaking the seal, and the wire-core grip lets you angle the temple slightly upward if you wear a hard hat or low-profile helmet. If you run a face shield over the frame, the Det Cord profile is one of the few Rx-rated frames that doesn’t push the shield off-spec.
Will my FSA or HSA cover them?
Yes — when ordered with prescription lenses, the Det Cord PPE qualifies as a medical device under both FSA and HSA accounts. We supply an itemized receipt automatically with every Rx order. If you’re submitting to a vision insurance plan instead, most VSP, EyeMed, and Davis plans will reimburse out-of-network on receipt; we don’t bill the carrier directly, but the receipt has the codes your administrator needs.
